On Thursday, the 21st of September, the research group Language Policies and Practices, to which I am affiliated, organised a highly successful conference on multilingualism in families and schools. The event was held at the Grand Hotel in Reykjavík. We were honoured to host presenters from a range of countries, including Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Canada, Greece, and the United Kingdom.
The conference also served as a platform for us to share the preliminary findings of our ongoing research project, which explores language policies and practices in culturally diverse families in Iceland.
The event garnered significant engagement, attracting over 150 guests on-site and nearly 100 virtual participants. The day was characterised by enriching dialogues, compelling subjects, and the dissemination of novel insights.
On behalf of both our research group and the conference participants, I extend our gratitude to all presenters:
- Christina Hedman, Stockholm University
- Piet Van Avermaet, University of Ghent
- Aspa Chatzidaki, University of Crete
- Lars Anders Kulbrandstad, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences
- Lise Iversen Kulbrandstad, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences
- Dalvir Gill, University of Roehampton
- Jim Cummins, University of Toronto
